The DNA of Marriage in the Church
Marriage and family ministry is the DNA of Woodland Hills Family Church (WHFC). Since the start of our church in 2002, we have been driven to do whatever it takes to not only divorce-proof marriages, but more importantly to help couples enjoy their marriage! We see too many couples stay together but die a slow death of boredom and co-existence. Keeping families together and thriving is our mission.
That’s why we want to ignite every couple in our church with adventure! We want to ignite every child, teen, and single with the hope of an amazing marriage! And we want our children and teens to have parents who are absolutely in love with one another!
Twoignite is the marriage ministry of Woodland Hills Family Church.
Here’s a glimpse of what it looks like:
1. Biblical DNA based in three passages:
“Let marriage be held in honor among all…” Hebrews 13:4
“Enjoy life with the wife of your youth…” Ecclesiastes 9:9
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
2. Honor marriage in every ministry:
WHFC is committed to honor, enjoy and prioritize marriage in all of our activities and services. Each person in our family is encouraged to discover the high value of marriage and to honor it all of the days of our lives. There are three ways this is accomplished.
A. Preparation for marriage within our family programs, including our youngest kids to our student ministry, college-age and to any age adult. Each department implements into their curriculum the biblical DNA of honoring, enjoying and prioritizing marriage.
B. Continual learning for married couples happens in the context of various ministries, primarily through life groups. Couples learn to honor, enjoy and prioritize one another through various activities and events (e.g. life groups, Love & Laughter events, church-sponsored date nights with childcare, training for couples, pastors and ministry leaders, Marriage 911, special events at the church, etc.)
C. Marriage crises and recovery programs, which include both our Marriage 911 ministry and professional and pastoral counseling for couples and families in conflict.
3. Implement “Twoignite Sunday”:
At WHFC, our senior leadership chooses to take the second Sunday of every month to stop any sermon series and preach specifically on marriage. It is called “Twoignite Sunday”.
4. Hold Twoignite Events That Honor Marriage and Build the Family:
In addition to Twoignite Sunday, the following events and messages help drive Twoignite:
12Igniters: Messages designed to “ignite” your marriage in twelve specific areas.
Twoignite Family Date Night: Based on a particular theme for the night, these date nights are for you and your kids to laugh, grow and create memories together as a family.
Twoignite Date Nights: Built around a theme or Igniter, these are opportunities to drop your kids off at church, and go out and ignite your marriage.
Twoignite Events: Including everyone’s favorite Love and Laughter, Twoignite events are the perfect opportunity to laugh together, enjoy one another, and take your marriage to a new level.
